The highly-awaited Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video soon, and fan speculation has been widespread.
Season 1 introduces a diverse group of personalities living within the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and emotional bonds that drive fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator stated earlier this year. "However I feel like me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 moves, and how many of what they're waiting for unfolds this season.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some really amazing disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans create a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
